Physicians and other healthcare professionals need to understand the difference between BASIC and FUNCTIONAL health literacy before they can COMMUNICATE effectively with patients.
Producing great looking health information can be ineffective if the reader can neither understand it, nor act upon the messages.
Evidence has shown that when patients get the information they need, they are far more likely to take control of their own health condition, and comply with their prescribed treatment.
That’s why our research activities focus predominantly on the areas of HEALTH LITERACY, PATIENT PSYCHOLOGY and CONSUMER BEHAVIOR.
